Natasha Ratcliffe at Higher Spargo
Inside the studio of Natasha Ratcliffe, in this video, Natasha reflects on two decades spent at the Higher Spargo Yard - a setting she describes as “a little rough around the edges… but magical.”
“I feel really lucky to be here. It’s a wonderful atmosphere… a place I love to be.”
In what began as an empty studio space, with minimal tools, at Higher Spargo Natasha has built her own foundry in order to create medals, jewellery, and other various sculptural objects in bronze. Natasha uses the ancient lost wax method of casting to do so.
Best known as a medallist, Natasha’s career was launched after receiving the British Art Medal Society’s New Medallist scholarship in 2005. Since then, her work has been widely exhibited and collected, with pieces held by institutions such as the V&A, The British Museum and Sweden's Royal Coin Cabinet. She has designed coins for the Royal Mint and received commissions from The Art Fund, The Royal Society of Edinburgh, and The Biochemical Society, among others.
