For more than thirty years, Nick Brennan has been writing and drawing for The Beano and The Dandy, delighting generations of readers with memorable characters, expressive drawings and brilliantly observed humour. In this lively, hands-on workshop, he'll share the techniques behind great comic strips and guide you through creating one of your own.
Perfect for complete beginners as well as experienced artists looking to loosen up their drawing, the course starts with the fundamentals of visual storytelling. You'll explore facial expressions, body language and character design before inventing your own original comic personality. Along the way you'll learn the visual language of comics – from speech balloons and sound effects to action lines, backgrounds and page layout.
Once your characters have come to life, Nick will show you how to build a simple story, plan your sequence of panels and turn your ideas into a finished comic strip. Throughout the day he'll offer individual guidance, practical tips and plenty of encouragement.
