Pinch Pottery: Making Functional Pots with Hannah Lawrence

£160.00

Six week evening course 7-9pm. Mondays, 13th April to 18th May

This six-week practical course explores the making of simple, beautiful pots for everyday use—vessels for food and drink shaped slowly by hand. Working in a calm and supportive studio environment, the course encourages close attention to touch, form, and material, while allowing space for individual creative expression to develop.

Sessions combine group learning with one-to-one guidance, making the course suitable for all levels of experience, from beginners to more established makers. Through repetition and careful observation, participants will build confidence in pinching techniques and develop an intuitive understanding of proportion, balance, and use.

Hannah’s teaching approach is entirely her own, developed through more than twenty years of dedicated practice. Born in Cornwall and initially self-taught, she went on to establish a distinctive pinch-pottery practice in Melbourne, Australia, before travelling to Shikoku, Japan to study wood-firing traditions. She returned to Cornwall in 2013 to open Folklore, her Falmouth shop celebrating well-made local craft.

Glazing and firing are not included as part of the course. Fired pieces can be arranged separately, with firing costs from £1 per 100g of finished pottery.
